Charity Concert: Gheorghe Zamfir – The Panflute God

Zürich, Switzerland, 8th of March 2013
I looked forward to this concert, but after a hard, too busy day, maybe, my mood was not right for such a concert... However, at the right time, we arrived at St. Peter Church in Zurich, punctual for a great artist and for the show he was about to offer. The show did not start until Decebal Apostol told us a few words about "the Panflute King", a great international artist and too little time for a few words, a few sentences... Here a novel should be told, a thick book with many, many pages.

But let’s get back to the story...

The concert started, song after song, the rhythm touched me and made me accompany it with my head shaking and foot beating and I easily hummed the lyrics of well known songs. The panflute and piano were at their best, and if I closed my eyes for a moment on the tunes of the "Ciocarlia" song, it even seemed like feeling the smell of spring and the warmth of the sunshine. And the ending? At its best! The song "The Lonely Shepherd" silenced me .. I planned to record some songs, but I do not know why my hands were trembling during the concert. And this was the end... the last song...

And I just sat down on the stairs, my hands were not shaking anymore, people were not whispering anything... it was just me and the sound of panflute and piano, crowned by a tremendous acoustic in the Church of St. Peter. I forgot about by my initial mood, I forgot what follows, the time had just stood still for those five wonderful minutes! Gheorghe Zamfir, as a great artist, is a very modest person. The afterwards meeting was a relaxed one, he was a man among men. And is he the greatest Romanian artist alive? Maybe yes, maybe not, but certainly this was a meeting I will never forget! Brilliant idea, Ruxi! A great initiative and a 10 for organizer Ruxi Bourne and the team that helped her! I'm glad I am Romanian and compatriot with master Zamfir, and I'm glad I attended the concert and the meeting.

I was expecting more people, to be present in a higher number. Where are you, people? It was an extraordinary event, meeting a pride of Romania, and it was for charity, and where were we? I'm glad the room was full with Swiss spectators, but I feel sadness when I think about how many Romanian people I met in Switzerland over the last 2 years and I have not seen in St. Peter’s Church at this concert! I really enjoyed the concert and it was worth being there! I will definitely participate in the next Gheorghe Zamfir concert!

Good job, Ruxi!

PS: Coincidentally or not, in the same evening with the concert the Comet PANSTARRS started to be visible.
